Farmer incomes in India have suffered despite a bumper harvest this year, says Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian, in an interview with BloombergQuint’s Contributing Editor Praveen Chakravarty.“The puzzle was that normally when you have a positive supply shock, prices do come down, but they don’t come down so much as to reduce incomes. That’s what had happened, when we looked at the data in July,” says Subramanian.
