Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2022 on February 1, at 11 am. The Budget comes at a time when India is trying to overcome the debilitating effects of the pandemic. So, as the Economic Survey points out, a lot of focus will be on ramping up India’s health infrastructure. Initiatives to enhance ease of doing business, opening up of more avenues for foreign direct investment, and more make-in-India push could be on the cards. The Budget will not be completely shorn of populist schemes as five states are going to polls in the coming month. The huge working middle class of India and the Corporate sector are also looking to reap some benefits from any possible announcements on tax sops for work-from-home and such pandemic-induced changes.
